Want Summer Sun? Choose Marmaris

If you’re looking for a summer holiday in the sun, with plenty of thrills and spills, and a guaranteed tan in peak season, then you will certainly get this if you’re visiting Turkey. When you search for resorts one of the first which will come up, and probably time and time again, is Marmaris.

Now, Marmaris is a resort that has something for everyone, and neighbouring Icmeler is a great option for a quieter day out, with an arguably better beach too.

Holidays in Turkey are generally cheap regardless of where you go, and the fantastic pound to lira rate at the moment means you’ll be getting more for your money whilst you’re there. If you can combine your bargain holiday with extras, such as airport parking, effectively avoiding the need to pay out large amounts for public transport, then you’ll save even more. This is a regional kind of affair, not just limited to the major airports, including fantastic facilities for Leeds Bradford Airport parking too, proving you can save no matter where you fly from.

If you can save on your travel plans then you’re going to have more to spend whilst you’re in resort, and if you’re visiting Marmaris then you could put this towards a few excursions, of which you’ll find plenty around this area of the country, including Ephesus and maybe even a relaxing boat trip or jeep safari.

Marmaris itself is a large town, but it’s easy to get around via the local bus service, known as a dolmus. This is a cheap way of getting around, at only 2 lira (currently around 50p) for a journey, and you simply shout when you want to get off!

The beach front is long and lined with bars and restaurants to enjoy during the day or night. If you want to take advantage of the beach, which of course you would at some point, then you simply need to buy a drink or a snack from the restaurant which that section of beach belongs to, and you’ll be looked after all day.

One experience you can’t miss out on is haggling in the local bazaar. This colourful and sometimes loud market is certainly a fun experience to have, and you might find that you also grab some serious bargains to take home as souvenirs!

Turkey as a holiday destination is growing in popularity, and that might be a lot to do with price, but I like to think it has a lot more to do with the fantastic resorts and friendly locals which make a holiday in this part of the world a joy. Whilst in the past it may have had a reputation, sometimes unfairly, don’t let this sway you, as I can almost guarantee that one visit will not be enough.
