Why Winter Does Not Mean No Holiday

Head to the snow

Winter does not have to mean no holidays, and if you don’t fancy jetting off to far-flung destinations in search of winter sun, then you are left with another option, and a very attractive one it is – skiing holidays!

If you’ve never tried skiing or snowboarding then now is the time to give it a shot, as you are seriously missing out on a spot of luxury and beauty if you avoid ski resorts.

There are countless resorts in many of the world’s top ski countries, such as Austria, Switzerland, Bulgaria, and Italy for example, however France is one of those countries which has countless resorts to choose from, including the very popular and very beautiful La Plagne.

Located in the heart of France’s best skiing terrain, you are reaching altitudes of up to 3250m, with guaranteed top class snow, 256 pistes on offer, including 37 black slopes for those experienced skiers, 79 red slopes, and 128 green slopes too, accessible by 122 lifts. La Plagne is also home to the world’s longest cable car, the Vanoise Express, and very impressive it is too!

As far as accommodation is concerned, you can stay in a chalet in La Plagne to up the luxury stakes, and it doesn’t cost as much as you would think. This gives you a home away from home vibe to your holiday, surrounded by mountain beauty – can you imagine the view you will wake up to every morning?

You can choose from a number of stand-alone chalets in the region, which give you access to everything you will need, including a shuttle bus into the centre of the town, allowing you to visit the shops, bars and restaurants. There is also the obligatory ski school, equipment hire, and local supermarket for those important necessities. Apres ski-wise, you’re more than catered for too.

The actual area you are looking at is called Paradiksi, and this is a culmination of both La Plagne and neighbouring Les Arcs. These are two of the best ski areas in the country, with routes for all abilities. Advanced skiers can head off on the Bellecote glacier and enjoy the black runs which are easily found around the area, and if you are a beginner or intermediate, you will find less challenging runs too, allowing you to either learn from scratch, or build up your ability level as you go.

Winter certainly doesn’t mean doom and gloom, in fact winter can mean brightness in abundance – the brightness of the snow! A ski holiday is a totally different take on scenery, and the chance to experience the mountain lifestyle is a complete difference to sun, sand, and sea, in the resorts you may experience during the summer months in the Mediterranean countries we all love so much.
